Cutler for Cambell!

Jay Cutler a Redskin?
Jason La Canfora-

Jay Cutler is the flavor of the day/week/month, so my inbox is now stuffed with inquiries about him. (Covering the Redskins is the football equivalent of covering the Yankees or Red Wings, with every player examined and debated for a possible roster spot on a daily basis.)

So now it's Cutler, eh? Well, my take on this is that the dude wants to get paid, period, whether it's in Denver or Winnipeg. And given the state of panic that Broncos owner Pal Bowlen appears to be in over this whole saga, and the fact he rivals Daniel Snyder when it comes to spending, I don't see this kid leaving town. Just my hunch for now. If/when he gets that Ben Roethlisberger contract, he's suddenly going to be drenched in orange and talking about his dream of being the next Elway and spending his career in Denver.

And the bottom line is that the Broncos don't have to do anything if they don't want to. The kid has three years left on his rookie contract, and if he wants to hold out, so be it. Somehow I don't see it getting to that point.

As for the Redskins, well, they've certainly made no long-term commitment to Jason Campbell; forget about getting him a new contract. And Vinny Cerrato won't even call him the quarterback of the future. So would I rule out the Redskins sniffing around on a Pro Bowl QB? Heck, I never rule anything out.

But finding a way to stuff in a $15-million-a-year quarterback and the inevitable $45 million or more in guarantees when you didn't have the cap room to squeeze in Ray Willis would be something. And, again, it's not like the Skins have any more significant restructuring candidates sitting around the locker room or high-salaried veterans they can just jettison.

It would take a bounty to meet Denver's asking price, were this whole drama to reach that stage. We're talking multiple first-round picks in all likelihood. And if Denver Coach Josh McDaniels is telling the truth about not wanting picks for Cutler in any hypothetical, and instead wanting players, that pretty much takes the Skins out of the running.

There are far too few true potential franchise QBs in the league, let alone young ones, to let them get away. You don't see guys who have put up Cutler's numbers being traded very often, and had he gone, it would have only been for another young QB whom McDaniels obviously believes is a budding superstar (Matt Cassel).

A lot of Redskins fans are suggesting the team simply package Jason Campbell for Cutler, but that seems farfetched. McDaniels made it pretty clear Cassel was his guy, and I think he clearly wants someone he can mold. JC has already been through a career's worth of system and coordinator changes. That's not exactly a blank slate.

Vinny CheddarDong Cerrato

Article from DChino reporter Dan Steinberg- It's been an exciting few days for Sarge Vinny Cerrato. He got Haynesworth, Hall and Dockery in a 24-hour coup. He said bye bye to Jason Taylor, a player he was 100 percent positive would play for more than one year. He had a blogger create a dang funny (and occasionally profane) fake Gmail inbox. He had his Free Agency Starts!!!! movements detailed by Peter King, who quoted Cerrato telling an agent "I need to get what you're thinking of numbers-wise so I can go in and talk to Dan," and the agent later saying "I needed the Redskins. They pay people, and they pay people quick."

But it all worked out, with a fan base that's once again excited about July. As the cover of Kindergarten Ninja says, this is the place "Where Discipline Becomes a Code of Honour."

Ah, whatever. Just watch this clip of Vinny's acting debut in the 80's dud. As Sarge says, "Put a little pressure on this guy, and he might make a mistake."

And thanks to V, an inside informant from Glover Park, DChino was able to hack into Vinny Cerrato's Gmail account, here's a screenshot and a larger version from this link-

FAREWELL SWEET PRINCE

Part-time Defensive End and Full-time Ballerina, Jason Taylor, was cut today by the Washington Redskins. Taylor tallied a staggering 3.5 sacks and 0 turnovers in one season with the Redskins while collecting $8 million (about $2.3 million per sack). In no surprise to anyone, the team was initially willing to bring Taylor back for another year at the same price; however, the team actually expected him to, you know, maybe try a little harder...which Taylor wasn't willing to do - "Taylor refused to agree to contract clause that would require him to participate in 25 of the 39 offseason workout days."

So what we have is a high profile, over the hill, unmotivated, veteran player putting up mediocre numbers while the franchise is out $8 million and two draft picks (2nd/6th rounders).

Sounds about right.

SUNDEEEEE

“I’M WITH YA, MAJ! BOOK THE PLANE TICKETS, MA, WE’RE PLAYIN’ ON SUPER SUNDEEEEEEE!”

Haynesworth Banter

pretty good quote from profootballtalk.com

"And maybe he won’t lose his cool and step on a guy’s unhelmeted head.

And maybe he won’t leave practice and come back with a pipe. (Not a pipe for smoking crack, but a pipe for cracking skulls.)

And maybe he’ll learn how to obey all posted speed limits and not cause accidents that require 25-year-old kids to get hip replacements.

And maybe he’ll learn how to fly, without a plane.

And maybe the Redskins finally will learn that this isn’t the way to build a championship football team."

Haynesworth's getting paid!

CHEDDARATO AND DANNYBOY STRIKE AGAIN

Early this morning, Redskins owner Dan Snyder and vice-president of football operations Vinny Cerrato acted on a plan likely concocted while fellating one another on the racquetball courts in Ashburn, Virginia - signing DeAngello Hall and Albert Haynesworth to a grand total of $155 million. Hall, who played well for the Redskins in the second half of last season, signed a 6 year - $54 million contract ($22 million guaranteed) after being cut mid season by the Oakland Raiders and being previously cut by the Atlanta Falcons for attitude problems.

Haynesworth, was inked to a 7 year deal worth as much as $115 million ($41 million in guarantees). Haynesworth is "Famous at first for his juvenile on-field behavior, Haynesworth established himself as a force to be reckoned with last season with his best production yet. The downside to drafting him is the fact that he’s averaged just 12 games per season since his rookie year" (ESPN.com). Both players improve the overall talent of the defense, but 13 years and $115 million ($63 million in guaranteed money) for these two? Way to go idiots.

THE NEXT OVERPAID IDIOT REDSKIN

Some Darkon named Lance Zierlein who blogs for the Houston Chronicle thinks Albert Haynesworth is gonna be a Skin. Obviously, DChino's personal Potomac friend Dr Dan Snyder would make a play for Haynesworth. This would also give them the upgrade on the defensive linem they need to allow Chedder Dong Cerrato to draft a wide receiver in the first round.

Before you start getting all pissed off about the Skins handing out a $100 million contract, remember this: Haynesworth once stomped on the bare head of a Cowboy. Still, UGH!

DCHINO still knows the Skins are the bomb, but this same situation happens every offseason, next thing you know Albert Haynesworth is Albert Belle.
